KEYNOTE SESSION

Outcome by Design: What Got Us Here Won't Get Us There

Healthcare organisations have traditionally measured success through activity, capacity and volume. Yet delivering more care does not necessarily mean delivering better care. This keynote will explore why healthcare must increasingly be organised around the outcomes that matter to patients, relative to the resources required to achieve them.

Drawing on international experience, Dr Stefan Larsson will examine how leading organisations progress from measuring outcomes to using them to redesign services, align teams and drive meaningful transformation. He will share what distinguishes mature value-based healthcare systems, the capabilities required at different stages of the journey, and the common challenges organisations encounter along the way.

The session will set the strategic context for the Summit and invite leaders across IHH Healthcare to consider what it means to intentionally design care around value. It will conclude with a call to action for IHH to build on its global scale, clinical expertise and existing outcomes infrastructure to make better outcomes a defining feature of how care is designed, delivered and improved.

PANEL DISCUSSION

Beyond Cost Containment — Designing Healthcare Around Value

Moderator

Panellists

As healthcare costs continue to rise, organisations face increasing pressure to improve affordability and efficiency. However, sustainable healthcare cannot be achieved through cost containment alone. The more fundamental question is how healthcare can be designed to deliver better outcomes for patients while using resources more intelligently.

Moderated by Dr Stefan Larsson, this leadership panel will bring together perspectives from healthcare management, hospital operations, quality accreditation and public health. The discussion will explore what patient value means in practice, how organisations can move from departmental excellence towards better outcomes across the full patient journey, and how leaders should balance financial sustainability, quality, safety and patient needs.

Panel members will also consider the role of credible outcomes measurement, patient-reported outcomes, fair comparison and organisational culture in supporting improvement. Rather than viewing value-based healthcare as a standalone initiative, the session will examine how value can become a guiding principle for decisions involving service design, investment, workforce, partnerships and accountability across IHH Healthcare.

Future of Work: AI Agents in Action Hackathon

What happens when great ideas meet AI? Over the past two months, more than 200 ideas from teams across our operating divisions and business entities were transformed into AI agents built on Copilot Studio. Guided by this year’s theme of Outcome by Design, participants explored new ways to boost productivity, enhance quality, and reimagine the future of work.

FEATURED SESSION

Beyond Metrics: The Measure That Matters

Healthcare organisations rely on numerous indicators to assess quality and performance. Yet the most meaningful definition of success must ultimately reflect whether patients are safer, functioning better and receiving care that responds to what matters to them.

In this session, Dr Muhammad Hussein will bring the audience back to the patient's voice as a foundation for healthcare design. He will explore how patient input can inform clinical care, patient safety, hospital flow, infrastructure planning and the broader experience of receiving care. The session will position patient-reported outcome measures, or PROMs, as one important way of systematically understanding the impact of healthcare from the patient's perspective.

Drawing on practical implementation experience, Dr Muhammad will discuss how organisations can introduce PROMs meaningfully rather than treating them as another data-collection exercise. He will highlight common pitfalls, including unclear purpose, poor workflow integration, low clinician engagement and data that are collected but not acted upon. The keynote will establish the practical context for the subsequent workshop on translating PROMs data into improvement.

PANEL DISCUSSION

From Insights to Action

Moderator

Panellists

After a day of inspiring ideas and improvement initiatives, this panel brings together leaders from medicine, nursing, pharmacy and allied health to explore what it takes to translate insights into meaningful, sustainable change. Through the lens of patient-centred care, panellists will discuss the enablers of successful transformation, the challenges of implementation, and how multidisciplinary teams can work together to deliver better outcomes, experiences and value for patients.

Learning Experience

PROMs from Theory to Action: Turning Patient-Reported Outcomes into Quality Improvement

With Prince Court Medical Centre TourSeat availability: 30 pax

This practical workshop equips hospital leaders, clinicians, quality teams and operational staff with the skills to move PROMs beyond data collection and use them to drive meaningful improvement. Participants will learn how to understand, select, localise, administer and interpret PROMs, using examples from diabetes mellitus, total knee replacement and low back pain.

Through applied exercises featuring PAID-5, KOOS-12 and the Oswestry Disability Index, participants will explore how to identify gaps in patient-reported outcomes, connect findings with clinical and operational factors, and translate insights into practical actions at the hospital level. The workshop is designed for participants at all stages of their PROMs journey, from those considering implementation to teams seeking to make better use of their existing data.

Sustainability and Innovation Workshop

With Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur TourSeat availability: 40 pax

This interactive session brings participants together to explore how innovation and sustainability can be embedded into everyday healthcare delivery. Through an engaging icebreaker quiz and a fireside chat featuring perspectives from Axiata, Tenaga, and more, participants will gain insights into the opportunities, challenges and emerging trends shaping sustainable and innovative healthcare.

Participants will then take part in a guided tour of Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur providing a first-hand look at innovation and sustainability initiatives within the hospital environment. The session will conclude with a facilitated reflection and ideation discussion, where participants will share observations and identify practical opportunities to advance innovation and sustainability in their own settings.
